Before we visit a site we undertaken a desk review of bat records and consult a number of sources for existing information on local bat roosts. Sources usually include local planning authorities (i.e. biodiversity officer), National Biological Records Centre, Bat Conservation Ireland and/or Bat Conservation Trust, local bat group and the National Parks and Wildlife Service or Northern Ireland Environment Agency.
This work is undertaken prior to visiting the site. We also consult maps, and in particular aerial photography which can useful in identifying the likely areas for bats prior to visiting a site.
